Walk & Talk Therapy

Therapy that meets you outdoors.

Real therapeutic work, done side by side in nature. Walk & Talk sessions combine the proven benefits of movement and fresh air with the depth of one-on-one therapy, at your pace.

Is This You?

  • You feel restless or stuck indoors and a traditional office setting makes it hard to open up
  • You’re carrying stress or anxiety that feels easier to process when you’re moving
  • You’re craving a therapy experience that feels more natural and less clinical
  • You find it easier to talk when you’re not sitting face-to-face across a desk
  • Being in nature and fresh air, greenery, movement helps you feel more like yourself
  • You want to do something good for your mind and body at the same time

You want support that fits your life.

Walk & Talk therapy takes the work outside. Walking side by side, rather than face to face, creates a different kind of ease. Many people find it simpler to access honest conversation when they’re moving, breathing fresh air, and not locked into eye contact across a desk.

Time in nature lowers stress hormones, supports emotional regulation, and can deepen the therapeutic process. It’s the same evidence-based therapy, with the added benefits of movement and the outdoors woven in.

The Approach

Evidence-based therapy, with nature as part of the process.

Walk & Talk isn’t a workaround, it’s a genuinely effective format that brings extra benefits to the table. Research shows that physical movement and time in nature each independently support mental health. Together, they create conditions where therapeutic work can go deeper, faster, and more naturally than many people expect.

Movement & Mood

Walking releases endorphins and reduces cortisol, creating a physiological state that supports emotional openness, clearer thinking, and reduced anxiety during the session.

Nature & Nervous System

Exposure to green space lowers stress hormones and activates the parasympathetic nervous system, helping you feel calmer, more grounded, and more present.

Side-by-Side Dynamic

Walking alongside each other, rather than face-to-face, reduces the intensity of direct eye contact, which many people find frees them to talk more openly and honestly.

Mindfulness in Motion

The natural environment offers built-in mindfulness cues: sounds, textures, light that can anchor you to the present moment and complement the therapeutic conversation.

Same Therapeutic Tools

CBT, ACT, mindfulness-based approaches, and other evidence-based modalities are all available in Walk & Talk format, the location changes, not the depth of the work.

Frequently Asked

A few common questions.

What happens during a Walk & Talk session?

We meet at an agreed-upon outdoor location and conduct your session while walking together at a comfortable pace. The therapeutic conversation is the same as an indoor session; the setting is simply outdoors. You don’t need to prepare anything differently. Just show up in comfortable shoes.

Is Walk & Talk therapy as effective as indoor sessions?

Yes. The same evidence-based approaches used in office sessions are available in Walk & Talk format. For many people, the outdoor setting actually enhances the work, movement and nature both independently support emotional regulation and openness. It’s a genuine therapeutic format, not a lesser version of the real thing.

What about confidentiality outdoors?

We take confidentiality seriously and choose routes that are quiet and unlikely to involve people who know you. We walk and talk at a natural volume, and we’ll discuss your comfort level in advance. You’re always welcome to pause a conversation if someone passes by. We can also return to an indoor or virtual session at any time.

Is therapy covered by insurance?

Many extended health benefit plans cover psychotherapy. Coverage varies by plan, so we recommend checking with your provider. As a Registered Psychotherapist (RP), Lauren is eligible under most plans that include psychotherapy.

What if the weather is bad?

We’ll keep an eye on the forecast together. If conditions aren’t suitable such as heavy rain, extreme cold, or icy paths, we can easily switch to an in-person office session or a virtual session for that week. Flexibility is built in, so a bad weather day never means missing your appointment.
